Handmade Arcade this weekend!!!

We are in a frenzy getting our stuff together for Handmade Arcade in Pittsburgh. It's only just over an hour away from us so it's the closest good show we do and we are determined to make the most of it.

Last year was awesome even though we were freezing (no heat) and dirty (in a warehouse). This year is already promising to be so much better as the location has been moved to the fabulous and historic Hunt Armory in Shadyside.

It's on 324 Emerson Street so plug it into your GPS and be there. Find us Saturday from 11 - 7 and Sunday from 11 - 5. There are also some Early Birdie Shopping passes available for Saturday morning so you can get there first and get dibs on the good stuff. I'm right in the middle in the aisle closest to ZipCar in booth 49.

Best of all, I have been working away on some really gorgeous long-sleeved onesies and toddler tees with beans in some cool new suits -- some even out of this crazy expensive Japanese fabric I bought in SoHo (had to have some retail therapy to make up for the loss at Vida's Market). It's fantastic.

Here's a little bit more info from their press release:

Handmade Arcade is the perfect opportunity to jump start your holiday shopping, decorate your home, or dress your fine self while supporting independent businesses and creative ingenuity.

Check out the more than 90 vendors that will be appearing at HA this year on our website vendor page: here. We’re also going to have yummy food vendors like Franktuary, Coca, My Goodies Bakery, and Dozen.

A.I.R. will be back for their second HA appearance with screenprinting demonstrations and “make-and-takes”. The Society for Contemporary Craft will present metal working demonstrations throughout both days of HA.

Handmade Arcade 2008 is Saturday, November 8 (11am-7pm) AND Sunday, November 9 (11am-5pm) at the Hunt Armory, 324 Emerson Street, in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood. The location is just a short walk from a number of bus lines, including the 71C, 71D, and 500, so save some gas money and take the bus! There will also be several bike racks on site donated by BikePGH so we’re peddle friendly too!

My My

I sent out a big order to Taryn of MY MY. She just opened up a brand new storefront selling all the amazing stuff from her website and a lot of newly acquired handmade goods. The shop's in Hatboro, PA. There are six pairs of panties and six baby/toddler items.

She made me that snazzy little button there on the left to add to my growing "Retail" section. Taryn also has a great online Indie Craft Fair Guide. I'm thrilled to have my stuff at a *real* store, especially one as cool as My My.

Lancaster, PA and the Eastern Market

It was a beautiful drive to Lancaster. We hardly had any traffic and it was a little overcast so I didn't have to wear sunglasses all day. Mom and I ate lunch at a crazy diner and then got to our hotel room with the evening to spare.

The Eastern Market was really cool. I got to hang out with some amazing Etsy sellers. Actually most of the vendors there are Etsy sellers. But seriously, how much better can it get than to drive up, get out of the car, and get a hug from someone you've been "talking" to online for months? That's one of the reasons why I love Etsy. It is such an amazing community. I have made so many friends and the network has allowed me to meet a lot of them in person.

One of those sellers is Steph of Stephanie Gibson Designs (above). Her jewelry is really exquisite. I was so impressed by the quality of her craftsmanship. My mom got a very nice necklace and some matching earrings. I bought a lot of soap and a lip balm from The Professor's Wife. She's not on Etsy yet but we're trying to talk her into it. I can't even list all of the other artisans who were selling their work that day because there are just too many of them. I was pretty happy with the way my table turned out. I've been adding new types of products (like the bean dolls) and it was a struggle to figure out where to put everything. I'll keep working on that one.

Lancaster and its surrounding towns are incredible. Mom and I had a great time doing some touristy stuff like visiting the emergency room (seriously), shopping for crafts and antiques, checking out the outlet mall, eating at gargantuan country buffets, and buying miniature pies. It's a wonderful place for a family vacation (as long as you check out the Eastern Market!). That's a cool llama that I met.

For more pictures of the Eastern Market, check out Frost Imaging's flickr site. Alissa of DivaDea also wrote this nice blog post about the market.

Saturday at the Market

This weekend, Saturday, July 14, Lemon Cadet is heading to Lancaster, PA for the Historic East Side "Eastern Market." At the corner of East King and Shippen Streets in downtown Lancaster.

As always, there's going to be something new that's not in the Etsy shop yet. This time it's really big striped bean dolls. They're all finished and ready to go.

For this event, I'll only have room for one table. That's a big switch from being able to use the space of the whole tent like the last couple of shows. So I spent some time figuring out how I want it to look since I have a wider variety of items now. I left all the baskets and bowls empty and took a quick picture for reference. I'm going to print it out and bring it with me.

Find directions here. Photos of the event here. The weather is going to be amazing: sunny and warm without any rain. I'll be in the big building, just inside the doors next to StephanieGibson and her beautiful jewelry. You'll also get a chance to meet my talented mom.

There's no entry fee and it goes from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Small Magazine

The latest issue of Small magazine has finally hit inboxes worldwide -- and Lemon Cadet is inside!

Small magazine is one of the best venues of independent and contemporary design for children. And because it's online, it's accessible to everyone with an internet connection. Their photography is brilliant and their styling is impeccable. I really feel honored to be in such great company.

So I have to say that this pretty much is the best news ever.

Lemon Cadet is off to Philly!

We're off to the City of Brotherly Love for Art Star, a two-day craft extravaganza, June 2nd and 3rd. In addition to the over 100 artists and crafters, there will be music, food, and demonstrations.

The even is held on the Liberties Walk. 1030 - 1040 N. 2nd St. and Germantown Ave. in Northern Liberties. There are better directions on the website. On Saturday we'll be there from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until 6 p.m.

As always, we'll have something new that's not up on the website. This time it's kitty panties. I'm not even going to satisfy your curiosity with a sneak peek, they are that cute.

We'll be under a big white canopy -- just follow the scent of lemons. Along with the entire collection of onesies and shirts, there'll be several new button designs, a new yeti mirror and a fabulous bean mirror with a hip white background.
