Project: Buttons or Snaps?

This weekend I was able to all but finish the Oliver + S playsuit I was working on. It's adorable. We put it on the poor kid even though our house was a bit chilly. Now when she sees it she says, "Cold." Yet another parent-of-the-year award...

It will be warm enough for her to wear this about the same time she turns 2. So what do you think: buttons or snaps? She is getting good and snapping and unsnapping but not so good with buttons yet. I like setting snaps (er, having my husband set them) and I've never made a buttonhole. Hmmmm....

I think buttons are always sweeter! Especially oversized ones :)

You're right!

Your daughter is older, can she do buttons?

I love the look of buttons, but snaps are SO much easier for us. I have a newly 5 year old who is Miss Independent and she loves when she can do it herself. She can do some buttons, but the placement of these would be difficult.

Great to see what you're up to! Thanks for sending the link. :)

I prefer the look of buttons but maybe you could do snaps that look like buttons so you get the best of both worlds? I love the fabrics you're using!

I could glue buttons to the snaps! I think have have some very flat snaps.

What a great suggestion.

She long past the putting-everything-in-her-mouth phase so that might work.

Thanks for all the help!

Haley hasn't messed with buttons yet, but I know at this age they figure things like that out. I am hoping she won't though, she already takes al her clothes off as it is! Eeep! :)

Yeah, I've been getting a half-naked baby out of her crib almost every morning since she learned how to unzip!

I'm going to have to put snaps on all of her sleepers since we have a few more weeks of winter left no matter what that groundhog sees.

This pattern actually layers well if you want to put a T-shirt under it for the cold weather. I like that polka dot print you used for the yoke!

hahhaahaha thats funny she says cold when she sees it. It looks great! You have such a knack for making stylish things

I could definitely see some big cute buttons on that. :)

Liesl, that's Red Letter Day by Lizzy House. The pattern is pearl bracelet. The entire line is pretty cool.

What would you suggest putting on for bottoms? Maybe if I had the right leggings or tights.

Snaps would be easier for trying to use the potty. Not sure where you are at with that process - know you sort of put it aside for a time.

I have made snaps at the crotch so we're covered there. Just not sure when she is going to want to dress herself as much as she enjoys UNdressing herself.

And we never put potty training on hold. She just has absolutely no interest. We have gotten some pee though. Yay!!

Snaps are a definite. Much easier for everyone to use. Just glue buttons on top as a decoy.

Snaps on legs and sides always worked well for me - but snaps on shoulder straps seemed to come undone every time she got caught on something or simply yanked on it. Maybe I was using the wrong snaps? anyway - did a few of these back when LO was 12 months old and used buttons on all of them. Then passed them on to a younger child and they are still being worn. Best of luck and hope to see a picture of it being worn :)

Thanks again for all the comments! I think I'm going to learn how to sew a buttonhole and if that doesn't go well then I'll do snaps.
