Project: A Mention

Remember the Storybook Cape that I made for Zadie? Kathleen over on the Grosgrain blog finds it "adorable." I'm so glad she likes it. I've always wondered how the designers of the fabric I use or the patterns I sew from like the stuff I make using their tools. I always share this information with a bit of trepidation just in case someone would hate my work.

Kathleen had a baby on Tuesday so head over there and check out the pictures of the new cutie.

Introducing Project: Project

So lately I have been figuring out some things. Lemon Cadet is going to see some change.

The background: Little by little, after almost 6 years here, our tiny house has started coming together. I asked myself how it was happening and it took me a while to remember that a couple of months ago, Mr. Lemon and I agreed to keep the kitchen table clean. What was once a huge pile of mail and newspaper inserts and hats and gloves and my bag and cookbooks and magazines is now a clean yellow surface. That clean spot spread to the hutch against the wall, then the side table next to the couch in the living room and then the mantle above the fireplace. What used to be this huge pile of dread that sat there sucking my life away into its vacuum of procrastination, is now where we eat dinner. And cool cookies (since we have no counter space). And decide what coffee cake recipe to make. And pin quilt pieces together.

Now I'm not saying that I'm some organization queen. In fact, that photo above depicts about 15 seconds in the life of that countertop. There's a lot going on in that space right now. And we have some messy closets and one earthquake aftermath of a basement.

But it seems I've been able to start cleaning up this mess. I have just been doing it a little at a time. And I feel a lot more free. I've been doing projects like a maniac. We have been decorating -- making the transition from living like messy college students to like adults or something. I've been sewing lots of great things and designing and taking pictures of it all.

I'm giving it a year. Project: Project is going to chronicle the new action. Look for more frequent posts (I promise they will not be this long) and tutorials, interviews and the results of my OCD research. As always, I'll continue to post about all the craftiness that I'm up to with a little bit more information on the process (pattern review), the results (what I had to change to make it work), and the accidents (happy or not). I'm really excited about this and am looking forward to it. My goal is that others will be motivated to start on some projects of their own.

Tomorrow: A bit about me.

Soon after: Some projects.

Stay tuned.

Lemon Cadet Sighting...

Check out the Trendy Tots blog. They featured Dolores, one of my very favorite designs as part of their Fresh Finds. I don't have many hot pink onesies left and I haven't been able to find anymore wholesale so she may be discontinued soon. Such sadness.

Trendy Tots is a really amazing blog. They highlight all kinds of cute, indie products. What an honor!

News from the homefront: Mr. Lemon has been hard at work fulfilling my insane nesting desires. He replaced the kitchen countertops with the coolest laminate (if that's what it's even called...). Today he finished fixing all the cracks in my new studio (his old office) and we might even see some paint on the walls by the weekend. When that's all finished, the nursery challenge will begin.

I have pictures of the kitchen to share and a special vegan cheese ball recipe. I expect to have some time next week!

A Milestone

I remember when I first started selling my little guys on Etsy I would check out how many hearts other shops had. I was always so surprised when there would be one with lots and lots of hearts. Now I am one of those shops. It's amazing. I can't believe I have 650 hearts.

Thanks everyone!

And special thanks to BenCanDance who is making me a custom airstream pendant as my little treat to myself. Check out Ben's blog. He really gets around.

Feature on the Mira blog

First of all, thanks to everyone who stopped by the Squidfire's show in Baltimore last week. The show was a huge success and a really fabulous time. I got to meet lots of fellow Etsy sellers and some amazing crafters. I can't wait to do the next one (Art Star, Philly, June 2 and 3).

In other fabulous news, Lemon Cadet was featured on the Mira blog. Mira is the product of Etsy seller, Stephanie Gibson. She is a talented jewelry maker with extremely well crafted pieces. Her Etsy shop is full of dangerous items. We'll both be setting up shop in Lancaster on July 14 (more on that later).

Steph asked some tough questions for the interview but I think it turned out all right. She also mentioned the interview on her regular blog, Adornments and Distractions.

Lemon Cadet's yeti is featured with his sea friends!

Today Lemon Cadet's almost famous yeti panties were featured on the fabulous blog, ilikeseamonsters. This blog is authored by a fellow Etsian, tinaseamonster who makes really cool shirts about zombies. I can't wait to put those on the future cadets.

TinaSeamonster has been blogging for a long time now and has recently started featuring other Etsy sellers. She only picks super great stuff so it is a true honor to be featured.

She also mentioned it on the Craft Mutiny blog.

In other YETI news, four new pairs of yeti panties are on their way to the Etsy shop. One is polka dot, one pink stripes, one blue and one solid pink. I have two pairs of white panties that will get beaned later this week. Don't forget that you can get a yeti on your (new) panties too.

The yeti buttons are also now in the shop. As always, our partner website, YetiPanties.com (a division of Lemon Cadet) is still coming soon.

Lemon Cadet is the featured seller on Indie Finds

I am so excited to be the featured Etsy seller on the Indie Finds blog. Dottyral does a great blog and is an Etsy seller herself.

It's amazing to be getting some interest in my little shop.
